What are Chakras? A Beginner friendly guide

You may have heard the word “chakras” in yoga classes, meditation videos, or wellness conversations — but what exactly are they?

Chakras are the energy centers within the body. The word “chakra” comes from Sanskrit and translates to “wheel,” representing the idea of spinning energy throughout the body.

In many holistic and spiritual traditions, chakras are known to influence our emotional, physical, and energetic well-being. When energy flows freely, we may feel balanced, grounded, and emotionally clear. When energy feels blocked or out of balance, we may notice stress, emotional heaviness, fatigue, or feeling “off.”

There are seven main chakras commonly focused on in Reiki and energy work.

The 7 Main Chakras

The Root Chakra is connected to feelings of safety, stability, grounding, and security. When balanced, we often feel centered and supported.

How Reiki Connects to Chakras

During a Reiki session, energy work may help encourage relaxation and energetic balance throughout the body. Some people feel warmth, tingling, emotional release, or deep calm during sessions.

While Reiki is not a replacement for medical care, many people enjoy Reiki as part of their wellness and self-care routine to help reduce stress and support emotional balance.
